Shamwari Game Reserve
On the Bushmans River in the Eastern Cape, halfway between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown, the 20 000-hectare Shamwari Game Reserve is a malaria-free, private ‘Big 5’ reserve which has won numerous international awards.
All meals and two daily game drives, in open vehicles seating up to 6, are included in your stay. Morning game drives go out before dawn and evening drives return after nightfall, so take a warm jacket. Guided walks accompanied by an armed ranger in search of close encounters with rare animals can also be arranged. The heat of the day here is spent in the shade, swimming, reading and, of course, enjoying a delicious buffet lunch.
